We've been eagerly awaiting the release of Gabe Lehner's latest EP. We've made comparisons between 9 Theory and a couple of our favorite acts, Emancipator and Frameworks, and those connections we've made are more than evident in the 6-track EP, Beautiful Things, which is chock full of the warmth and richness of instruments laid upon an electronic pulse. Throw in his gorgeous singing voice, and you've got the indie-tronica that drives us crazy (in the best way).
Lehner's use of female vocals accentuates the delicate layering and subtle songwriting that runs through the EP. We premiered the single, "I'm Allowed," earlier this year, and Ashley Mazanec's voice is just mesmerizing. 9 Theory features Torii Wolf on the release twice, first on "Next Generation," as well as closer "Children's Play." The last song pairs Wolf's voice with Lehner's in a completely different way. Dawn Mistchele lends her smoky tones to "Get Up, Dig In, Good Luck." It's a standout on the release not only for the sultry vocals, but also because of that driving groove that will be perfect for the dance floor.
Speaking of dance floors, The Untz Festival approaches, and 9 Theory is one of our treasured artists. You can catch him in northern California June 2-4 at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds in Mariposa, Calif. It's the perfect, natural setting for Lehner's crisp productions. We're excited he's released such a tightly wound EP just in time for our festival, where it can unfold for our fans.
