As we are gearing up for another healthy competition, it’s important to shine the spotlight on a former title holder. Last year, Spundose rose to the top as one of the winners of The Untz Challenge. Through these efforts he has now graced us with bass at such festivals as Electric Forest, Summer Camp, and our inaugural year of The Untz Festival. Chris Johannesen's music has been on the radar since 2014, when he released his debut full length album, Setting up a Sacred Space.
Within the last few days he released a new mix titled, Lucid Dream Method. The mix is filled with glitchy chops—which is very reflective of the current wave underground bass has been riding. (Personal highlight: the drop at 13:06—the combination of funk and future bass come together harmoniously, sending the mix in a new direction). The kick drum is constantly in the background, creating a melodic flow as the mix progresses from futuristic to more natural sounds. He touches many genres throughout this creation: psytrance, dubstep, drum and bass and many more. This mix along with a lot of his other work really shows his diversity and talent.
Be on the lookout for another edition of The Untz Challenge, where it’s up to you to prove you have what it takes to send your music to the next level.
