It's been right around a year since Josh Sidell treated us to his psy bass masterpiece, Overview. This was the release that tipped us off that Psydell would be a force with which to be reckoned in our trippy corner of the industry. Today, he unveils his remix EP, collecting his friends from around the industry who have paid tribute to the source material with their own mind-bending takes on these tracks.
Spirit Tech (formerly of 2 Guys on Acid), kicks off the EP with the spongy rehashing of "Omni-Terrestrial," which kind of calls to mind the bouncy glitch of Andreilien. It's really quite a groovy tune. The Resonant Language version of "Gelatinous Vapors" has a Tipper-esque feel, with its drippy bass and alien sonic palette. Fellow midwesterner Alejo brings a dubby feel to "Traveing Through Galaxies," but his remix definitely has a contemporary feel with its spaced-out vocal samples. Of course, if you're a fan of Psydell, you'll dig his VIP "The Overview Effect," which blends the synthetic elements with organic flavors like a bit of hang drumming to good effect.
If you like what you hear, make sure you catch Psydell up at Winter Warmer this weekend with a handful of UNTZ faves from over the years. Central Wisconsin's about to get a great deal headier over the next couple days.
