Ocean Beats, a San Diego monthly dubbed “A Bass Music Movement,” will be taking its faction on the road for the first time May 3 – May 5, 2012. The Madero Group founder Jamie Minotti assembled the team with San Diego DJ’s Sublmnl Sound System (Austin Speed and CRMNL) and debuted the group in the Fall of '09. The short mini-tour will feature Eliot Lipp and Samples (aka Ben Samples) along with support from Sublmnl Sound System, Pool Party, and local acts in each city. “The event was created to showcase music that we at The Madero Group have a deep passion for, and truly care about showcasing,” says Minotti.
Although “bangers” are on the forefront of the scene, Ocean Beats believes that the bass lovers who have a passion for EDM will eventually find more than just the “drop"--but don’t get them wrong, they all love the energy. Some of Eliot Lipp’s beats, while skewing towards the midtempo/hip-hop side of things, are some of the nastiest pieces of work in the electronic world, shedding all doubt about his billings at world-renowned events such as Low End Theory, Red Bull Music Academy and massive festivals like Detroit Movement and Electric Forest.
Joining Lipp on the Ocean Beats run will be his good friend and label mate Samples (aka Ben Samples), a producer/DJ that hails from the thriving scene of Denver, CO. Samples, although on the heavier side of things, keeps it unique with his signature glitch-hop sound while also adding a melodic twist. Samples just released his 4-track EP Life of The Party on MalLabel Music, which sat at the #1 spot on Beatport’s Glitch Hop charts for a month. He's diving head first into the huge festival season with plays all across North America and a blowout at Glade Music Festival in the UK alongside KOAN Sound, Pretty Lights, and Rusko.
Rounding on the touring bill are Sublmnl Sound System, a tag team DJ duo, and Pool Party, a live electronic hip-hop group.
Catch all four acts and a host of local talent at Ocean Beats on Thursday, May 3rd at Winston’s in San Diego; Friday, May 4th at The Sail Inn in Tempe, AZ, and Saturday, May 5th at The Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club in Santa Monica, CA.
Also keep an eye out for details on the return of Ocean Beats sister event, River Beats, a two-day festival at State Bridge in Bond, CO, July 27 – July 29, in conjunction with Bonfire Entertainment.
