Chicago trio LWKY is churning out tunes faster than we can post them up. Building towards today's release of the trio's latest EP, Lün, members Zack Harper, Derek Outson, and Kevin Moze are crafting a strong foundation of tunes to build upon for their high-energy live shows.
Previously, TheUntz.com has debuted both "Reef Break," and "Pulsar." While the band was curating its new sound, the two lead singles showed us that the band was maturing sonically, taking its time with builds, and making sure the instrumentation was on point.
Lün opener "Rip Tide" immediately tosses us into the threesome's newer, sexier sound which featuers tons of wah'd out guitar licks, reiminiscent of Exmag.
"Mentawai" starts off on the chiller side, but then launches into some heavy laser bass blasts that have a mid-2010 Pretty Lights subsonic sound. Closer "Quasar" has a future funk sound that is powerful, yet controlled, and the unique drop event has some future bass elements.
Making their California debut, LWKY has been added to The Untz Festival in its second phase lineup, where they will be joined by Marvel Years, Dynohunter, Kinetik Force, Cosmic Coast, and a bevy of other up-and-coming livetronica acts June 2-4, 2016 at Mariposa County Fairgrounds in Mariposa, CA. These guys have got something building here.
