It was late 2016 when Dave Tipper released “Sleeper,” a touching ode to his stepfather PJ who had passed away. Today, it's his father he pays tribute to with “Cloaked.”
This midtempo musing is a tad darker than his previous ode, a bit more plaintive and twisting. It's as gorgeous as Tipper's slower, more richly compositional pieces get, but with a bubbling intensity fraught with intense pain.
Tipper was announced as part of Minus Zero in Vermont today, and was previously on the Summer Camp and Camp Bisco lineups. He has a Portland, Oregon date on the books for April 20th with Toumani Diabate with Beloved Presents under the Soul'd Out Festival umbrella. He began the year with a run of dates in New Orleans.
