As a rapper, getting any sort of production work from Blockhead puts you in an elite group with Aesop Rock and Murs. Not bad company. Atlanta psych-rappers The Difference Machine joins that upper echelon of backpack rap royalty on September 1st when Tony Simon's remix for “A Night in the Life of the Day Tripper” drops as part of the Triangle Schemes collection of remixes, extras, and new originals.
Simon puts his patented throwback flair on the track with smooth samples and elegantly spliced verses. You can A-B the original by watching the trippy video before to get a sense of what Blockhead was going for with this switch-up. Day Tripper's cutting rhymes get the care and attention they deserve in Simon's capable hands. It's easy to see why Homeboy Sandman jumped on the last record, and they've opened for Run The Jewels, Deltron 3030, Shabazz Palaces, Chuck D, and The Black Lips.
The Difference Machine hits the west coast next month, performing at The Knockout in San Francisco, Low End Theory in Los Angeles, and Til Two Club in San Diego from September 5-7 before returning to Atlanta for Project Pabst on October 7. As for Blockhead, you can catch him at Holocene in Portland September 14 and Nectar Lounge in Seattle with Random Rab on September 15. His new album Funeral Balloons is out September 8th.
