You'd be hard-pressed to find another act in the electronic dance music industry who culls inspiration from German expressionist silent sci-fi films of the 20's, but then again--The M Machine ain't your normal act.

The Bay Area trio of Andy Coenen, Eric Luttrell, and Ben Swardlick garnered an instantaneous cult following when a video teaser for Metropolis hit YouTube. Nobody does bleak, dystopian cityscape quite like these guys. Now, the the trio has released both its Metropolis Pt I & II EPs on megalabel OWSLA, in 2012 and 2013, respectively, and the epic tale told through videos and meticulous illustration has only served to bring more fans to the mysterious act.

On this episode, Ben Swardlick discusses the dichotomy of light and dark in The M Machine's sound, as well as the influential artists who have led to the sonic architecture that is so uniquely theirs. He also talks about the serendipitous Bruno Mars remix, and that pesky Dog Blood remix for "Middle Finger" that is keeping fans in a heightened state of anticipation.

The M Machine is on the nationwide Scream tour with trance legend Markus Schulz.  The tour has remaining stops in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico before culminating at the end of the month. The trio's wildly energetic stage show feature video effects and animations programmed live on stage by Coenen, and of course the hallmark of the M Machine stage show: the giant glowing M.

Atlanta's newest EDM monthly 4D is bringing The M Machine to The Masquerade on April 24th. The monthly takes place the last Wednesday of each month, and features some of the best headlining talent in the electronic music industry, as well as a bevy of up-and-comers who are ready to take to take their game to the next level.
