Favorite ThisSoul Controller Releases 2 Free Tracks: "Sunset on a Saturday"

Published: June 19, 2011

Boston's Soul Controller (Jonathan Gogel) is back with some new freebies. His latest collection, Sunset on a Saturday, is incomplete, as of yet, with new additions on the way. So far, a couple of tunes have been released, including the title track and That's All You Do. The latter features throwback soul vocals, a la some of the latest stuff we've been hearing from recent PLM acquisition Gramatik, but with a harder edge. TAYD brings the heat as the track progresses, with special attention to synthy warbles.

The title track paces itself, also coming in at 80BPM, with a bit of a Glitch Mob synth vibe careening around the background. Meanwhile, more soulful vocals croon through fuzzy space and ambiance. A stuttering sample sets the piece up as another downtempo driving song, perfect for cruising the twisty flyovers of the City on the Hill. Expect more from cuts from Soul Controller, as he's on an admittedly fell-in-love-with-the-city-on-a-Summery-evening inspirational kick.
