Sax-wielding bass producer SoDown is flying high off the release of his latest studio release with Westwood Recordings. The Canadian label started by The Funk Hunters' Nick Middleton is a home for all things funk, so naturally Ehren River Wright felt right at home with this six-track monster.
Leading off with "Gettin' It," fans slide right into the laid-back halftime funk of SoDown, shooting through sax solos built on top of thickly woven bass lines. Cuts like "King Funk" and "Old School" really lean into the future funk angle, whereas "Sun Go" shows off Wright's trappier techniques.
The most unique cut on the EP, "Royal Blue," which reunites him with previous collaborator Maggie Miller on vocals, might be the standout of the release. Glitchy, and on the heavier side, this stomper has a snarling attitude that really shows off the multitude of SoDown's sides.
Closer "Feelin' Fine" chills things back out with some head-nodding hip-hop vibes as Ehren soars off into the sunset.
SoDown celebrates the release of his latest EP with a homie throwdown at Cervantes Other Side in Denver, CO on Feburary 12th. Joined by Stone Soul, Homemade Spaceship, Spectacle, and Unfold, and featuring the immensely talented Pickles on visuals, this will be a real family affair for the Boulder-based headliner. This shindig is presented by us along with our good friends at The Mile High Sound Movement, Majestic Entertainment, GET DOWN Clothing, Grassroots, and more. True family vibes on this one.
