Criminally smooth, and silkier than Liberace’s bedsheets, a powerhouse sonic bromance is budding between Brooklyn and Fayetteville.
Blending the rugged, blunt-wrapped delicacies of Mike Iannatto (formerly of Exmag) with the southern fried soul of Drew Birch and Ian Gilley, the resulting RECESS x Cobrayama collab is a sinfully rich dessert of progressive beats and ravenous guitar work.
We first got a taste of the team-up via Cobrayama’s thick hourlong mixtape, The Human Spirit. It fits in tucked between Devonwho musings and Harris Cole playfulness. This pairing is edgy enough to keep us on our toes, but as inviting as a hotel hot tub with those delectable six string licks.
“Kites” is the first taste of the four-track EP from the trio, Channel Drift. We’re expecting the rest of the release to follow in the next couple of weeks. The RECESS duo first jumped on our radar when GRiZ's All Good Records tipped us off about The Brothel Gospel, but from the sounds of it, all three of these musicians have spread their wings and leveled up.
