Pretty Lights Music has been super busy, of late. The man behind the label, Derek Vincent Smith, blew the doors off That Tent at Bonnaroo. Tents don't even have doors, so the fact that he was able to do that should make people nervous. If RadioEditAV had not been there to capture the mayhem, you might think we're lying. Thankfully, the 3-hour performance was indeed recorded for posterity, and even boiled down for those unfortunate enough to miss out.

The Bonnaroo video recap is set to an unreleased Pretty Lights track, "I Know the Truth." The track opens in typical PL fashion: snappy hip-hop beat, throw back vocals, flowery synth runs, but just like the recent NIN/Nirvana/Radiohead remix, Smith's new stuff is just getting dirtier and dirtier. The drop features a decidedly evil bass, reminiscent of Prodigy's "Firestarter." Just filthy. As DVS files out of That Tent, he's slapping the hands of fans to Dead Prez's "Hip-hop." It's a funny choice, as that song perfectly encapsulates the new PL aesthetic. Hip-hop, with a full dose of that evil wobble. Catch him this weekend at Governor's Ball in New York.

On top of that smashing festival success, PLM is taking care of business on the home front, signing Gramatik to the burgeoning roster. The Slovenian producer has been steadily rising through the ranks of hip-hop, mid-tempo, and glitch artists, and is having a breakout Summer on the festival circuit, with upcoming dates at Sonic Bloom, Halfway to Forecastle in mid-July, and a Red Rocks appearance with Pretty Lights. To commemorate the signing, Gramatik has released a track from his forthcoming PLM debut, Beatz & Pieces Vol. 1. The track is "So Much for Love," and boy is it funky. A driving beat is coupled with glitched out vocals and an irresistible string melody. Blending soul and jazz with fresh and forward-thinking production, it's a good thing PLM snapped him up fast, 'cause this guy is on the move.

In addition to the regularly-scheduled tour dates, which take PL on a short European tour with his musical hero DJ Shadow, there has been an October date added in Tuscaloosa, AL. The city was recently devastated by tornadoes and powerful storms, resulting in a great deal of deaths, injuries, and property damage. The bonus date will serve as a benefit show for the people of Tuscaloosa. Tickets go on sale June 24th.
