You know the opening strains by heart. You hear that gurgling synth and you're already warming up your air-drumming muscles. And even though that apocryphal story about Phil Collins inviting the subject of the song to one of his concerts and belting out the lyrics to him in the front row was debunked (yeah, I know, I was pissed, too), "In the Air Tonight" is just one of those classics you have to sing right along.
The SunSquabi team clearly feels the same way about the track, and their reverence is out in plain sight. Instead of deconstructing the tune, Kevin Donohue, Andrew Clymer, and Chris Anderson build a new groove right on top of it. There's a ton of space in the original, so the guys fill it with soaring beats and bass. A pulsing groove now winds its way through the seminal tune. And watch out for that halftime breakdown.
SunSquabi hits Groove Music & Arts Festival in Georgetown, CO on July 18th, the State Bridge Amphitheatre in Bond, CO on August 1st, and will be holding down the SOULS RISING stage at ARISE Music Festival August 8-10.
