Omnitica: Straw Hat Pirates

Here we have the newest release from Norwegian born Omnitica, “Straw Hat Pirates.” Dedicated to and inspired by the popular Japanese anime One Piece, “Straw Hat Pirates” is a genre-defying tune that leaves you saying “I’m not quite sure what just happened, but I loved it!”
The track opens with a slow orchestral build mixed in with Japanese soundbites from the TV show. This build up leads into a massive first drop, a synth/keyboard heavy “piratestep” breakdown reminiscent of Captain Jack Sparrow and the Jolly Roger.
From there, Eirik Brunvoll (Omnitica) takes the listener on a journey through both calm and stormy waters, all the while keeping the dance floor moving. With a plethora of clips from the show for good measure, “Straw Hat Pirates” is an example of what would happen if a heavy electronic song collided with a boatful of pirates. Omnitica was nice enough to offer up the song for free download. I highly recommend keeping an eye out for this kid; at only 19, the sky is the limit for young Omnitica and if “Straw Hat Pirates” is any indication of what’s to come, we all have reason to be very excited.
