We've been huge fans of CITIZUN since we premiered the stunning "Echo" featuring Crystal Sister earlier this year. The Los Angeles-based trio of Griffin and Spencer Bastian and Jesse Clayton has been contributing helping hands to artists like Jason Derulo and Selena Gomez, all the while honing its infectious, genre-agnostic signature sound. Now the trio has a brand new, six-track EP, Lay Low, that shows off just what the unit has been up to.
"Lay Low" borrows a bit of that Derulo sax sound, but this dark pop tune has a considerably darker edge, more akin to The Weeknd's haunting vibe. Sonya Bender of Crystal Sister contributes vox to not only "Lay Low," but also "Sleepless," the future-tinged house ballad. These guys know exactly what they're doing in the pop sphere.
"Trophy" shows up the tongue-in-cheek sensibilities of this incredibly schooled production team, that can blend mainstream trends with a Knight Rider-esque hook. Plenty of hardstyle flavors in "Bua Bua," which also screams crossover hit.
Along with the release of the Lay Low EP, the trio has made a push towards more touring in the coming year. Calling it now, CITIZUN will be able to follow in the path of KEYS N KRATES, who have taken festival trap to the live stage with thrilling performances and over-the-top energy, and you're going to see these guys tearing it up on the arena level come next year.
