Amid concerns that SFX would crash the party, it looks like Electric Forest will go off without a hitch June 26-29 in beautiful Rothbury, MI, yet again.
The annual festival, a joint project between Madison House and Insomniac, has grown steadily over the last three years to become one of the elite summer festivals packing in jam bands, folk acts, hip-hop, and of course, plenty of electronica.
This year's headliners include Zedd, Steve Angello, STS9 (performing two sets), and of course, host band String Cheese Incident. Interestingly, Ms. Lauryn Hill will be emerging from her seclusion, to not only perform a solo set, but also join SCI for a collaborative set. Interesting. Her former brother-in-law Stephen Marley will also be on hand, along with Aloe Blacc, Art Department, and Matt & Kim.
The electronic lineup is bold and brazen, bringing perennial favorites ZEDS DEAD back, alongside The Glitch Mob, EOTO, Booka Shade, and Flying Lotus. Other Untz-faves include 12th Planet, Zoogma, The Human Experience, performing with Rising Appalachia as Soul Visions, Lindsey Lowend, Cashmere Cat, Poolside, and last year's breakout act Emancipator performing as the Emancipator Ensemble.
The real star of the show is the hotly contested Double JJ Ranch, sporting the titular Forest and providing a heavenly atmosphere mere miles from Lake Michigan. The dust seems to have settled over the EF lease, and the show will go on.
