Back for more, DCarls appears to have an unending supply of inspiration and variety. With the second part of his Flavorhythm EP, the 19-year-old glitch hop phenom is switching up his sound with some electro flavors that set the table for bottomless drops. Boosting the BPMs to the mid-hundreds, then letting the bottom fall out seems to be the M.O. of today's forward-thinking producers, and that aesthetic is evident in DCarls' "The Heat." Not one to rest on his laurels, the dizzying drop is reinforced by a secondary, driving rhythm that reaches near-electro speeds, but not quite.
The second track of part 2, "Icebreaker," follows a more traditional electro-house pattern. Almost an homage to "Heartbreaker," the disco-infused track houses plenty of glitch, but the easy-going dance vibe is shocked with the DCarls fuzz lasers, and the good-natured cut suddenly gains a harder edge. A little something different from the young producer who shows he's not playing around. I mean... he's gonna end up touring with the mau5 or Skrilly at some point, right?
