David Starfire: Jumping Off Review

By: Jordan CalvanoAnytime an artist is able to bring instruments into a mix of bass filled production, there is a potential for something incredible. This blend not only gives the sound a much more energetic and exciting feel, but creates tantalizing songs that have a distinctive live feel to them.
Well this is what David Starfire seems to do best. The Los Angeles based producer has a knack for creating rambunctious soundscapes that contain extraterrestrial auras to them, and will quickly send any listener on a journey throughout unknown realms of space. His incredible depth in the world of live instruments and extensive touring has helped him develop into a multi talented producer who seems to be able to do it all, while creating a unique sound that ranges a cross a slew of genres. This can be heard on recent albums like Bollyhood Bass and Bombay Beatz, and on mesmerizing remixes of Adham Shaikh and Bob Marley.
Well today we present you with Starfire’s Jumpin Off EP, which not only gives us a taste of what he has been working on as of late, but lets us dive into a few remixes by other critically acclaimed artists.
Opening up the EP is the title track, a pulsing cut that contains a clock stopping hip-hop groove to it, and features production from Koian and some hot bars spit by female vocalist iCatching. The cut is filled with pulsing bass lines and an armada of monstrous synth lines that will have any fan of Starfire going wild. The release also features an instrumental version of the song, for anyone who simply wants to rock out to the track’s catchy beats.
Next up we have the remix section of the EP. First up is Sidecar Tommy of Beats Antique, who adds contagious live drums to this song and gives it a unique and organic set of sounds that will quickly entrance its listeners. Ben Samples adds glitched out soundwaves to this track without going overboard and sacrificing the feel of the original.
Starfire’s Jumping Off is an enthralling release that gives us a few different takes on a massive cut, that while sounding very different are all perfect for getting a crowd moving.
