Champagne Drip - Obelisk EPThings have come full circle for Sam Pool. Years after he came to the forefront of the dubstep world as SPL, and then went underground to rebrand and re-emerge as Champagne Drip, Pool is hitting fans with a tough-as-nails dubstep sound that is equal parts nostalgic yet cutting edge.

Working with Liquid Stranger's WAKAAN label, Pool is on the verge of releasing a hard-hitting quartet of tunes tomorrow (July 27th), as part of the Obelisk EP. Today we premiere “Argent Energy,” which echoes of label head Martin Stääf's aesthetic, with some classic Circus sounds, as well. High frequency wobbles are paired with a fuzzy mid-frequency wash that acts as the leitmotif through the song, and through the EP, as well. The other tracks are at times more shimmery, or lean even more Circus-y, but that mid-frequency fuzz factory is a guiding focus through the release.

Champagne Drip has a busy summer schedule running smack into fall, hitting Stilldream in northern California tomorrow, then jumping on tour with Zeds Dead for select dates on the Deadbeats tour, including Minneapolis, Eugene, and Detroit, with stops in Salt Lake City, Tampa, and Sacramento peppered in.
