5. Drumsound & Bassline Smith - Atmosphere ft Tom Cane
Drumsound & Bassline Smith – “Atmosphere” (Feat. Tom Cane)

Drumsound & Bassline Smith have pinpointed the technique for juxtaposing enticingly heavy with entirely melodic. This balance doesn’t come easy, but these drum ‘n’ bass veterans have found an appetizing middle ground that simply works. “Atmosphere” is an audacious piece of art that boasts rebellious snares, electrifying bass lines, and Tom Cane’s perfectly pitched vocals. The result is something so rejuvenating that you might just leap off your couch in a fit of youthfulness. Climb a mountain, impulsively sprint a mile, or just do a couple backflips. Just do it!

4. Mediks - Don't Let Go ft Sarah Watson
Mediks – “Don’t Let Go” (Feat. Sarah Watson)

Discovering Mediks was a huge highlight of 2012 for us. The blossoming trio just knows how to make hypnotizing bass music, and we’re super down with that. They’ve released a trifecta of breathtaking EP’s since joining forces, and we can’t imagine they plan on slowing down any time soon. “Don’t Let Go” is a venomous chune that instantly satisfies the deepest desires within each listener. Sarah Watson’s angelic harmonies couldn’t fit better with the pulsing production of Mediks, and drifting off into otherworldly realms is just a single mouse click away.

3. Black Sun Empire - Arrakis (NOISIA Remix)
Black Sun Empire – “Arrakis” (NOISIA Remix)

NOISIA’s gargantuan remix of “Arrakis” is straight balls to the walls. Taking a classic drum ‘n’ bass anthem from the legendary Black Sun Empire and doing exactly what you’d expect NOISIA to do. Momentously heavy, yet still so intricately woven that you might forget to breathe when this bad boy kicks into gear. The track is like a scary movie. There’s a steady rise, clutching climax, and an absolutely earth shattering falling action. Bump this on some massive speakers and watch as your whole house falls to the ground around you. But you know, in a good way.

2. Fred V & Grafix - Games People Play
Fred V & Grafix – “Games People Play”

“Games People Play” is an immaculate choice of song to include on a driving playlist. Specifically if that drive is taking you to a music festival in a far off location. Breath racing, heart rooted deep within your throat, and the entire weight of the everyday grind lifted off your shoulders. Fred V & Grafix have simply mastered the art of ambient, instrumental drum ‘n’ bass. Not too calm and not too heavy. Not intense enough to scare off the liquid fanatics and not mellow enough to leave the bass heads ducking for cover. Like Goldilocks said, this one’s “just right.”
