Genesis, as it is aptly named, is the first compilation released by ThazDope Records, a Cincinnati-based record label. Although still in its infancy, having only been around for a couple years, this label is sure to make noise in the future.
At the moment they aim to be the best of the best in the Midwest future bass scene and this compilation certainly showcases why. With a healthy base of talented producers like Alejo, Spankalicious, and smith., there is no reason they can’t or won’t reach their goal of global speaker domination.
The first thing that comes to mind after listening to this compilation is “what a trip.” This mix is riddled with psychedelic bass, synths, and reverb which all comes together to create the perfect post-show playlist while your squad winds down after a night of killing it. The tempo is low throughout, but the beats are still so immersive and impressive.
This playlist is pleasing from top to bottom with heavy-hitters like Beak Nasty’s glitch symphony "Born From Stars" featuring Lydia Liza. This is a journey of a song with a wonderful display of distortion.
"Mangata" by Moniker is a beautiful compilation of sounds both familiar and foreign. Powerful bass covered with cosmic resonances really gives this young producer a unique sound.
Two tracks down the line lies "Rattled," a smith. and Spankalicious tune that will have you feeling as the title suggests. With bass deeper than the Mariana’s Trench, the sub-woofer consumes the listener and takes them on a short two-minute adventure into true bass music.
The song making the most noise off this compilation is Yheti and Hecka’s "Purpose." This song also receives vocal aid from Mt. Analogue whose impactful and scientific lexicon add an organic veil over this digital beat.
This is a great first volume in this compilation series and we here at The Untz are excited to see where this and ThazDope Records go in the future. With some of the best songs on this playlist being the label’s own artists, and their obvious eye for collaboration, there is no reason expectation should not be high.
Zen Awakening, which hits Orlando this weekend, thought highly enough of the ThazDope crew to enlist these sonic footsoldiers into a march around the southeast waving the festival's banner. With dates in Knoxville and Asheville in the bag, the crew moves to Raw in Chattanooga, TN tonight, and will hit Aisle 5 in Atlanta, GA tomorrow night (November 20) on its way down to Zen Awakening. Spankalicious and Yheti are at the helm of these powerful nights, so don't sleep on those shows.
