The midwest bass scene is keeping things hot even in the depths of winter. Samsara Family Collective today unveils Samsara Vol 5, featuring rising stars in the scene like G-Bread, Dreezstring, sandose, HIZEN, slum body, OSHEA DAVAUN, and more.
We become very familiar with the Samsara Family through Super Future, the Staff Pick winner of the most recent edition of The Untz Challenge. Nick Rowland has assembled a mighty community of next level producers, and they appear poised to run the game in Michigan, and expand outward from there.
Rowland has a number of tracks on the comp, but today we premiere his collab with Patrick Conlin, a.k.a. Patches O'Malley, who most recently brought us this hefty collab with s e s h, who also makes an appearance (with Super Future) on the comp. Let's just say these guys are all related. I will add, there's some cross-collective pollination in the works, as Super Future has collaborated with Spicy Boi MeSo, which you can check out below.
“Smokey” gives me serious “Babatunde” meets CharlestheFirst vibes. It's smooth and subtle, with some real deft bass work. There's so much space in this track, which makes it inviting and intoxicating. You want to curl up in it with a good book. But you know that shit is going to slap on a solid club rig.
Speaking of which, the Samsara Family celebrates the release of this compilation with a big showcase at The Intersection in Grand Rapids, Michigan this Saturday, January 19th. You can see Super Future, G-Bread, sandose, CHOFF, and Dreezstring in The Stache, and KAR POW, Hizen, and ghost toast playing house and techno in The Mint.
You're going to be seeing all these names a lot more in the coming months. We look to Rowland and Co. to pave the way for the next generation of underground bass phenoms.
