2014 marked the resurgence of the funk, and just under the wire, SugarBeats offered up its contribution to that growing movement. The new four-track EP from Ananda Goldsmith and Luke Estes is future funk heaven. Groove City Romance packs such a punch, going all out on the glitch-hop end of the spectrum, but keeping it sexy with an R&Bass feel.
Each track brings on a powerful female vocalist with a predeliction for sultry vox. Standouts "Pretty Young Things" and "Settle the Score" pull heavily from the disco aesthetic, giving the whole release a vintage feel, while pushing the envelope of contemporary production techniques.
SugarBeats are making a statement with this Adapted Records release, and the industry is taking notice. Catch the boys at WOW Hall in Eugene, OR tomorrow night (12/31) for The Garden of Earthly Delights NYE party with Birds of Paradise and Plantrae.
