Another week gone, another weekend arrives. I’ll be returning to the Greatest City in the World, aka Chicago, for Pandemonium Fest. The show will feature The New Deal, Conspirator, Nero, LoBounce, Bassphreak, Item 9, Jasper, Decay and others. I thought I’d give you all a taste of what’s coming.
The greatest live electronic band of all time. Though the Disco Biscuits are parallel to the New Deal’s musical prowess, the New Deal makes music that sounds the most like a DJ. Impressive doesn’t even begin to cover it.
While I won’t be seeing the Biscuits tonight, I will catch a set from Conspirator. Featuring bassist Marc Brownstein and keyboardist Aron Magner, the group will be rounded by Lotus drummer Mike Greenfield and RAQ guitarist Chris Michetti. Here’s a Biscuits tune that often sneaks its way into Conspirator setlists.
If you know me, you know I love drum and bass. So if you’re headed to Chicago tonight, look for me somewhere with my arms outstretched and my teeth chattering. In short? I’m pumped for Nero.
I’ve been talking about this guy for a few weeks now, because I’m fairly sure his patented drippy bass (patent pending) has infected my brain cells. That’s okay, I didn’t need ‘em anyway.
5.“Zoom” - Jasper
Opening with the sound of burning matches, this downbeat track flows along with lush flourishes and charming melodies. Hypnotic head-nod stuff from across the Atlantic.
This bass was so heavy, I think I may have just become a man. Not to be crude, but I’m fairly sure my testicles ascended and then re-dropped. I wonder if I’ll have to go through puberty all over again.
7.”It’s a Party” - Decay
This might be a whole new genre: partystep! It could be the same as dubstep, except you listen to it at parties! Oh wait, I think I’m just thinking of dubstep.
