Continuing a prolific streak over the past year, Mr. Bill follows releases on mau5trap, Subcarbon, Deadbeats, Wakaan and his own newly minted IDM label Billegal Beats, with a subwoofer rattling Wub EP on Dirt Monkey's new label, 19K out September 6.
Featuring a collab with label head Patrick Megeath, himself, Bill Day also joins forces with fellow alums of The Untz Festival SubDocta, Hullabalo0, and Jonah Hodges. Ranging from heady riddim to classic Circus-style dubstep to a bouncey island type bass reminiscent of his Liquid Stranger joint “Frankenskank,” Mr. Bill demonstrates his range and ability to turn out finely-tuned heavy dubstep on par with his inimitable glitch-hop, techno, and IDM, for which he's known. This 19K release is vastly different from the Esseks collab EP the pair released with Ganja White Night's label to start off the year, but the ability to cleverly wrap intense bass around playful builds is easily identifiable.
Day and Megeath create a talking "wobble" on “Duddley Stomper,” which contains that signature Dirt Monkey flair that has catapulted him to new heights over the past couple years. The SubDocta collab “Five Fingers Deep” hits equally hard. Preston Charles has been teasing his fans with this one as anticipation builds for this week's release. “RDM RTD” with Hullabalo0 is what happens when two audio wizards known for intricate glitch work decide to go full riddim. Andrew Bryant has the ability to produce in a number of styles, and his rarely unparalleled abilities find a match in Day. Finally, a major departure from their Billegal Beats work takes Jonah Hodges and Mr. Bill for a throwback dubstep anthem—far afield from IDM, but their production chops are on full display.
Mr. Bill will have plenty of opportunities this to flex his new Wub sound on his co-headlining run with Mersiv this month. Dirt Monkey has his own Primatology Tour this fall with tons of special guests familiar to us, and SubDocta joins the aforementioned Ganja White Night on their big The One Tour later on in the season.
