Monsta: Where Did I Go (Dillon Francis & Kill Paris Remix)

OWSLA’s Dillon Francis has teamed up with labelmate Kill Paris to bring us yet another remix to add to his collection of bangers released since his debut back in 2010. Remixing the new track “Where Did I Go” by Monsta, also signed to OWLSA, their combined skills give life to the original dub-house piece. Borrowing the hook from the original, they start the track off strong with a steady drum kick and grungy synths that are suggestive of the funk-driven sounds associated with Kill Paris. As the song advances into the traditional whistle tune sound that Dillon first introduced to us way back with his remix of “She Blows,” the tempo picks up and spirals into a quick drum snare that welcomes the drop. A multitude of galactic synths clash to define the drop, which is similar to the first build up in structure but with a lot more energy, a clear sign that Kill Paris is steering the ship at this point. Dillon Francis’ presence is felt throughout the entirety of the track but because of his diverse nature it’s at times difficult to differentiate between that of Kill Paris’ production and his. All in all, it’s a great remix that reinforces the ability of both producers to keep things fresh while still sticking to their roots.
