Once again, The Untz Challenge brought out the best and brightest hustling electronic music acts from all across the country, this year. We say it every year, but it's absolutely true: this year's competitors represented the highest quality talent the Challenge has ever fielded.
At the end of a fierce battle for the top spot, Mass Relay emerged victorious, capturing the highest number of votes. The duo, which calls both Colorado and Illinois home, squeaked out a dramatik finish. The Untz staff was then tasked with selecting the management's choice, which put the entire field of finalists back into play. After much debate, we selected California glitch-hop and future funk rising star Orphic as our representative at nine major festivals this summer.
Our two winning acts will hit Summer Camp Music Festival (May 22-24 - Chillicothe, IL), Infrasound Music Festival (May 28-31 - Black River Falls, WI), Wakarusa (June 4-7 - Ozark, AR), SONIC BLOOM (June 18-21 - Rye, CO), Electric Forest Festival (June 25-28 - Rothbury, MI), Farm Fest (July 23-26 - Buena, NJ), The Werk Out (August 6-8 - Thornville, OH), Backwoods Music Festival (September 4-6 - Agra, OK), and Dancefestopia (Kansas City, MO - September 11-13).
We can't thank everyone enough who participated on the festival side, the competitor side, and the voting public. The Untz Challenge has become an incredible, career-changing opportunity (just ask last year's winner Filibusta), and we absolutely love giving struggling artists this incredible opportunity. For those who weren't able to make it happen this year, we're not going anywhere, and we know you'll be even better by this time next year. Work your ass off in the off-season, and get your game face on for 2016.
