Luke the Knife, the digital disco-funk project of Lotus' Luke Miller, cut a swath through the Denver music scene with his debut appearances at the end of December. We caught him on the 19th at Cervantes with support from Beard-o-Bees (Luke's brother and Lotus cohort Jesse Miller), Denver's TNERTLE, and Cosby Sweater all the way from Indianapolis. We dug on the TNERTLE's dynamic set, giggled at the Christmas carols sampled in Cosby Sweater's set (though not their rough vocals), and saw the dance floor really get rocking with Beard-o-Bees.
Luke took the stage with an amped up crowd that was ready to boogie, and they were not to be disappointed. As an added bonus, Luke was playing live along side Lotus drummer Chuck Morris. Guitars, keyboards, drums. Just as we anticipated in our preview article, Luke's funkiness is meant to be experienced live, on the dance floor. A huge smile on his face throughout the night, Luke dished out disco jams that had just about the whole joint boogieing. So while we still can't say that we'd always rock these tunes around the house, we'll definitely be strapping on our dancing shoes for the night show from Luke the Knife.
Luke the Knife LIVE with Chuck Morris on drums will perform again in Colorado next week for a couple of performances. First at the Highland Tap & Burger in Denver on January 9th and then at three20south in Breckenrdige on Januay 12th with Untz Challenge III winners Dynohunter. Then its time for Lotus tour again, which will also serve as Luke the Knife's New York City debut as he plays a Special Lotus Afterparty at Lucille's @ B.B. King's on January 27th.
