Anyone who knows our M.O. knows that we like shine a spotlight on the up-and-coming acts who are hustling hard to bust out of their regions and really break into new markets and get on the radar of folks outside their home town. One thing we knew we wanted to improve on over our inaugural year of The Untz Festival was to get on the ground more in our adopted home town of Mariposa, California and see who was making some moves in the region.
That's what led us to ION a.k.a. Jimmy Mosqueda out of Visalia who has become a dependable act in the Fresno metro area. Originally producing more mainstream trap and dubstep, Mosqueda has evolved to become even more inline with what we traffic in mostly, which is the psychedelic, trippier, and weirder side of bass.
Which brings us to the new ION VIP of the jewel of his set, “Okidoki Money.” A really sneaky bass track, this one shoots out of the dark with some sputtering, croaking bass reminiscent of Toadface, but with a real sinister veneer. In updating the original Mosqueda played around with the emotion and depth of the track, adding in some delightful atmospherics that really fill out the cut.
You can catch ION along with Abstrukt, Bipolar-Frequencies, and more of his Central Valley bretheren at The Untz Festival June 2-4 in Mariposa, California at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds. Come see this hometown hero on the big stage.
