Headlining acts
Zedd,
Porter Robinson,
Bingo Players,
Krewella and
Paper Diamond, as well as aspiring DJs and supporting acts are headed to Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia on September 28th for GLOWfest. Touring music festivals and playing sold out solo shows around the world, these young artists have brought mainstream EDM to a new level of popularity. All artists have also seen many of their original releases and remixes on the top of the Beatport and iTunes charts. With all of these artists being big enough to play shows on their own, it is a huge deal that they are all coming together to produce such an epic music festival complete with some of the fastest rising, new generation of electronic musicians. The event will feature 15 different performances on two separate stages.
Scheduled on the same weekend as West Virginia University’s Homecoming festivities and with all of the alumni and football fans in town, GLOWfest should prove to be one of the biggest parties that Morgantown has seen in quite sometime. As the nation’s number one party school, WVU played host to Kaskade this year for their free Fall semester welcome concert, Fallfest. Hosted by Music To Your Ears Productions, GLOWfest is being held at Mylan Park, a huge open concert area, located right off of the Interstate 79, providing seamless entry and exit for out of town guests. There will also be shuttle busses running periodically to and from the downtown and freshman campus areas for a safe and sober ride for students for just $7. Tickets to the event are $40 in advance, $50 on the day of the event, and it begins at 1pm with local acts and will rage on with the headliners until midnight. Tickets are available at:

Porter Robinson has had an epic year in electronic music. At just 20 years old, he has performed at music festivals such as Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival, Electric Zoo, Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Lollapalooza. Last summer, his
Spitfire EP crashed the Beatport servers upon release and his hit single “Language” grabbed the #1 spot on Beatport and iTunes.
Spitfire, released on Skrillex’s label, OWSLA, also hit #1 on Beatport’s overall release chart and iTunes Dance chart. Dual headliners, Porter Robinson and Zedd, will be playing back-to-back sets. Their first back-to-back set was at Camp Bisco, creating massive hype for their tour.
Zedd, a 23-year-old electronic music producer from Germany, has been playing music since 2009, and has been active on the scene creating electro magic ever since. Producing official remixes for well-known artists, Lady Gaga, Skrillex and the Black Eyed Peas, Zedd draws influence from a variety of backgrounds and his style is notable for layered texture and irreverent bass. Zedd and Porter Robinson are touring together on their “Porter Robinson & Zedd Present: Poseidon - The Back-to-Back Tour.” Aptly named in order to avoid confusion, they wanted to make it clear that neither of them is opening for the other, they are performing side-by-side. “Poseidon” is the name of the track that Zedd and Porter created collaboratively and will be what the tour and each show will be centered around. The unreleased track, “Poseidon,” features disco chords on top of trance sounds with a cool topline and a crowd vocal.
Bingo Players are an electronic dance duo hailing from the Netherlands, with popular remixes like Sander Van Doorn’s, “Koko.” They have performed at massive music festivals like Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland and Electric Zoo and are also featured on the lineup for the upcoming Stereosonic festival tour in Australia this winter.
Krewella is an EDM group from Chicago, complete with two female vocalists and a DJ. Their EP
Play Hard, released in June, debuted at #1 on Beatport upon release and peaked Top 5 on the iTunes Dance chart. This summer they had outstanding performances at Meltdown in London, Global Dance Festival, Spring Awakening, and Electric Zoo. Along with Bingo Players, Zedd and Porter, Krewella will also be at Stereosonic in various locations in Australia.
Paper Diamond, a.k.a. Alex B, has been touring nonstop since his latest EP release,
Wave Sight, earlier this year. The first time I saw him playing solo as Paper Diamond, he opened for Big Gigantic in Pittsburgh in February and brought the house down. He has exploded on the scene since then, playing at every summer festival you could think of. Now signed to Mad Decent, Paper Diamond often performs his live shows brandishing an iPad, making his shows super exciting to see live.
Local supporting DJs, including Mongo, Twin Syndrome, DJake Lysick and Clintonics, will play various music styles ranging from drum ‘n bass to trance and progressive house. These DJs are extremely popular locally and some are even featured on the lineups for a few smaller music festivals as well as having residencies at local clubs and venues. The electronic music scene at WVU is really growing exponentially and GLOWfest is just the start of the electronic music explosion in Morgantown.
Ground Up is an up and coming Hip Hop trio from Philadelphia who has been throwing down at WVU and many other large universities for the last few years. They have a sizeable presence in the college music scene, including opening for countless mainstream rappers like Rick Ross and Gucci Mane.
Fletcher’s Grove is a Morgantown based jam band that has been heading up the live music atmosphere in Morgantown and surrounding areas since 2006. Fletcher’s Grove shows sell out consistently and they have a huge loyal following in the area.
