With their notoriety on the rise, Toronto-based live remix trio Keys N Krates is in the verge of releasing a groundbreaking EP. The notion of the "live remix" itself has been flipped, screwed, and reinvented by keyboardist David Matisse, drummer Adam Tune, and turntable empresario DJ Jr. Flo a.k.a. Flowinsky. From reworkings of acts as disparate as OKGO, Florence + The Machine, and Lyrics Born, KNK has developed a style and stage show all its own, blending funky grooves with soulful melodies and a generous dose of rock-solid drumming.
This exclusive premiere from the band's forthcoming Blackout EP splits the difference between bhangra and hip-hop, socaton and dancehall. Perilous polyrhythms and an infectious groove pollinate "Ring the Alarm," which is both entrancing and bootyshaking. Make sure tune into The Untz Podcast this week to hear an interview with KNK as they discuss their roots, the new album, and just exactly how you go about producing a live remix. Let's just say it ain't easy...
