Don't think heavy bass can be melodic? You need an appointment with Dr. Ozi.
Toronto's underground sensation Nix Chohan has been cultivating this incredible sound over the past couple of years, collaborating with cutting-edge producers and gaining support from the biggest names in the business. Datsik has tapped the good doctor for a November 6th release of Dr. Ozi's brand new EP, My Friends Over You, for his own Firepower Records brand.
On Friday, four monster tracks will be unleashed, containing three powerful collaborations. Dr. Ozi's only solo output, "Just A Bit," has a whip-smart drop with plenty of future flavor. "Flip," which features a guest role from Creation has an infectious bounce that gets fans up on their toes.
You know things are going to get nasty when Spag Heddy is involved, but the balance between Dr. Ozi and his counterpart on this track is incredible. Yeah, sure, it's face-meltingly intense, but there's plenty of really cool synth work that sits in the cut with the heavy bass blasts. If you look at the intricacy of the composition, it's incredibly rich and multi-faceted. "Frontier" is a banger on another level.
If it's melody you're looking for, the Twofold collaboration is just your speed. Cinematic bass at its finest, "Over Me" is a tour de force of melodic mastery that is never corny or weak (which is a problem with a lot of entries in the genre), it's just pure adrenaline. Except goosebumps with this one.
Consider us blown away by the young talent that is Dr. Ozi. We're calling it--this is a Firepower act to watch.
