New York City's DJ
Nutritious recently remixed the track "Brooklyn Groove" for Do It Proper's new EP
Proper Doing It. The 4-track EP, (released by
Headtunes Recordings on July 10th) features two originals as well as a remix of each. It is the follow up to his last release
The Ride. Do It Proper is one of the aliases of Lee Jarvis, a London born house and techno DJ, producer and jack-of-all-trades who currently resides in Chicago.
Do It Proper's original version is a bouncy house number with a smattering of synths and keys that also give it a sexy, slowed-down lounge vibe. Nutritious completely mixes things up by putting his own unique DEEPER spin on the track. He slowly builds off the original by supplying an immediate influx of percussion. Intermittent blasts of keys and guitars and a repeated vocal sample give it a more futuristic feel. Stretching out the original by almost three minutes, the mesmerizing nine-plus minute track takes many twists and turns culminating in an ending that sounds like a horn-driven drum circle.
Is there a DJ more qualified for the task than the host of the weekly event Brooklyn Shakedown? While maintaining the original bounce of the track, Nutritious does his best to offer a true New Yorker's take on the "Brooklyn Groove," with just the right amount of chutzpah.
