Editor's note:

Top 10 Sidecar TommyOne of the most live and vibrant acts we've encountered in our corner of the electronc music scene is Beats Antique. By a long shot. Colorful costumes, outrageous fan interaction, and plain good damn music. David Satori, Zoe Jakes, and "Sidecar" Tommy have been fixtures of the festival circuit for a number of years, and the stage show just keeps getting bigger and better.

After two blowout performances at Boulder Theater, the Creature Carnival heads west into Boise, Park City, and onto Hangtown Halloween Ball this weekend, with a capper of a performance at Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR to close out the week. The backbone of any band is its drummer, especially when your band has "Beats" right there in the name. So we wanted to find out the backbone of drummer Tommy Cappel's percussive pedigree. He was kind enough to detail his favorite hand drummers, percussionists, and monsters of the kit. Now you know where he gets his beats.

10. You!

Anybody who pushes themselves and musical genres with dynamics, taste, and skill. It's important to remember that there is no such thing as the best. This subject troubled me as a young man. My quest to be the best hurt my soul and almost made me quit playing music altogether. If you are inspired to play music, do it. It's never too late to express yourself. Beats Antique has inspired me to grasp the beautiful side of music, and I have the opportunity to inspire people to just play music because it's fun!

9. Elvin Jones

Old school bad ass...

8. Tony Williams

Such a unique style and bursting with chops and groove...this guy's resume is incredible!
