Fans of Goopsteppa will be very familiar with the laid back flow of Ill Chill. The duo collaborated most recently on the full length album, Black Moon 3131, which was released this spring to much critical fanfare. Now Ill Chill has connected with San Francisco producer Subtle Mind for a 6-track collection that spans as many genres as it does guest stars.
Sun & Stars features guest vocalists and rappers, but also gives fans a number of different looks, from jazzy downtempo to R&B to more bass-fueled musings. Today we share the opening track, “Right Now Yesterday,” which highlights the grime stylings of the UK's Grim Sickers, which serves as the perfect foil to Ill Chill's 'subtle' verses, pun intended. The balance between razor sharp, verbal assault of Sickers and the hypnotic, introspective delivery of Ill Chill further play into the running metaphor of balance and yin and yang that ties the EP together.
The limited run is available for pre-order now and the vinyl drops on August 23rd.
