The Bay Area has always had a glut of talented, progressive producers in its ranks, but we're hitting a real high tide moment. Sidewalk Boy jumps out on Wormhole Music Group next week with a thrilling sound-design-forward slant illustrated over five tracks of pure insanity. It's audiophile heaven.
Today we premiere the lead track from the Consumed EP, which drops 8/08. “Raw” serves as a breathtaking intro to the release, with its soaring synths and atmospherics. The vivid orchestration gives way to plunging slow and low stomper with neck-breaking intensity almost out of nowhere. It's wild, and it sets the tone for the rest of the collection. The pattern holds through each track, melding vibrant soundscapes with knee-snapping hooks and drops. Place Sidewalk Boy halfway between Peekaboo and Chee in your mind.
The return of Wormhole Wednesday to The New Parish in Oakland, California coincides with 8/08 day as well as the Tour de Excellence helmed by DMVU and Of The Trees. What a perfect setting for Sidewalk Boy's EP release party, as well as the victory lap of Ghost Creek, DMVU's downtempo project with singer Nate Stephens, which makes its triumphant encore in Northern California following its debut at The Untz Festival back in June.
