With "future funk" all the rage, it's no surprise the subgenre's next biggest star hails from the sweaty south, the birthplace of all things cool. Young Donnie Bergeron from New Orleans today debuts his "Swamp Funk" from his forthcoming Savej release, Archetypes EP, due out tomorrow (September 25) on French label Otodayo, and it is a heater.

The ragin' Cajun has found a sound steeped in the big brass bands of NOLA that blends contemporary production techniques, throwback 808 flair, and plenty of neck-snappin' bass into a sonic gumbo full of spice. Picture GRiZ and Diplo collaborating in a stanky southern speakeasy in the 1920's. Bergeron keeps it cool, but coiled with energy. This "Swamp Funk" thing is gonna catch on--mark my words.
