Once again, Derek Vincent Smith returns to The Untz Podcast to chat with host Anand Harsh. On Record Store Day, April 19th, Smith drops the latest Pretty Lights album, The Hidden Shades.

The double 10" vinyl will contain four songs (including three never-before-heard tracks) from the A Color Map of the Sun sessions, during which Smith revolutionized the world of sample-based hip-hop by creating his own breaks with session musicians, cutting those to vinyl, and sampling the finished product to create a sprawling two-disc set. Four B-sides make up The Hidden Shades, and they're remixed by Emancipator, ODESZA, Blue Sky Black Death, and Love and Light.

On Saturday, April 5th, Pretty Lights will headline SnowBall Festival in Denver, CO. Smith will be joined by longtime drummer Adam Deitch, as well as champion turntablist Chris Karns, for a brand new PL experience.

Smith explains how the new setup will work, and also discusses the future of the Pretty Lights live band, which includes some interesting insight about his recent trip to California.
