Favorite ThisPretty Lights Music launches new tour, artists, and albums

Published: October 2, 2011

Derek Vincent Smith's Pretty Lights Music label is growing, and getting hungry for the road. With the recent addition of two new artists to the PLM family, it's time to send the boys on tour. The Pretty Lights Music Tour will feature Michal Menert and Gramatik on a monthlong swing through New England, the Atlantic seaboard, the Midwest, and will close out November with a number of big dates in the label's home stage of Colorado. Joining Menert and Gramatik on various dates throughout the tour will be the two newest PLM acquisitions, both of whom have just put out their first albums on the growing label.

Paul Basic is no stranger to the PLM roster, having played in bands with Menert and Smith when they were in high school. A drummer by trade, Basic has more of that Pretty Lights, electro hip-hop sound with the attention to detail certainly more focused in the area of percussion. His EP, The Mirror, has that quintessential "soul" sound familiar to fans of both PL and PLM, with fundamental differences in methodology. Paul Brandt is a schooled audio engineer, and his precision shines through his productions.

Richard Blake Hansen is approaching the PLM scene from a diametrically (sonically) opposed angle. SuperVision has been around the block, both in the hip-hop world, and has a more experimental approach to the label's sound. Blending his contemporaries' hip-hop aesthetic with broader genres of dance music, including electro and indie house, Hansen's sound covers more ground, and has a grittier edge.

Details haven't been shored up yet, as to who exactly will be appearing on each leg of the tour. And, California dates are in the works for the tail end of the tour, which will take the PLM crew into the first week of December.
