Favorite ThisPopular Science Music Series Continues at Kung Fu Necktie

Published: August 9, 2012
After two successful installations, the electronic music series Popular Science returns to Kung Fu Necktie in Philadelphia on Wednesday August 15.  Alongside resident hosts Grimace Federation and Sonkin the night will feature Damn Right, Beard-o-Bees, and producer DJ Thibault

The live electronic duo Damn Right has been making a name in Philadelphia and the festival circuit with their unique blend of electronic-synth-pop.  Beard-o-Bees (the solo act of Lotus bassist Jesse Miller) employs a light-up grid box called a Monome in his live sets to perform an eclectic mix of original dance music.  Thibault has been releasing huge synth-driven house-tempo remixes and original tracks.  Grimace Federation, a Philly staple, has evolved into a 3-piece bending left-field electronica and krautrock to their will.  Rounding out the bill Sonkin returns to spin a set of impeccable selected bass music.

Past Popular Science nights have featured acts that are pushing live-electronic performances and styles outside of traditional genre limitations including Starkey, Lushlife and Sinjin Hawke.  In anticipation of the event Beard-o-Bees has released a new half-hour mix featuring tracks from the night’s artists.
