When Bassnectar (Lorin Ashton) is dropping your songs on a rowdy crowd of bass heads, you know you’re doing something right. This is the case for Christian Bauhofer (Minnesota), whose tracks “Push It” and “California Dreamin’” have become a staple of Ashton’s sets as he destroys shows across the country.

To say Minnesota is a master at dropping incredible tracks would be an understatement. His production talents range across a slew of different genres to create an eclectic sound full of unexpected transitions and rambunctious synth lines that are guaranteed to please the ears of any listener. Bauhofer seems to grow with every single song he drops, and has improved at a rapid rate while putting his dreams of getting a diploma from UC Santa Cruz behind him and sticking with his desire to become a critically acclaimed producer with a limitless style of bass music. He is most known for passionate original cuts like the ones off his Ancient Machines EP, and definitive remixes of artists like Sander Van Doorn, NiT GriT, and Fenech-Soler.

On his new EP, Astral Projection, we witness one of our favorite redheads drop off a blissful package of tracks that strikes a perfect balance between genuinely melodic and exceedingly heavy.

Opening up the release is “Relax,” which quickly opens up with a serotonin heightening section of drum patterns that eventually transitions into a spree of memorable string sections and self-help samples that will entrance any listener into an energetic, unconscious journey. This track shows how fast Bauhofer is progressing, with a contagious set of instrumentations that fit together like glue throughout.

“Stardust” is a quick paced cut that features more out of this world string samples that layer perfectly under ideal synth bursts and nostalgic glitched out soundscapes. This whole EP shows Minnesota utilizing strings in a whole new and improved way, which will quickly immerse and truly impress his long time fans.

“Astral Projection” is not just a song, but an addicting out of body experience that will quickly capture any listener’s mind and have them floating throughout unknown facets of time and space propelled my impressive vocal samples and gentle dub lines.

Christian Bauhofer strikes once again, and we could not be happier about it. Astral Projection is an exciting release that stays true to its benevolent theme and creates a magical world filled to the brim with massive synth sections and remarkable creativity.
