The Untz Festival Phase 2There is no shortage of incredible projects whizzing across our WiFi every day from our partners on The Untz Festival. Holding down half our late night activities with the much-anticipated Gnargate stage, the Wormhole Music Group has been a huge ally in rallying our Bay Area troops, and experimental bass fans from well beyond the state.

Each week, the Wormhole team hosts weeklies in Tahoe and Oakland, but what some fans may not know is that the crew has also released some top-shelf tunes from some of our favorite acts like potions, Pleasure, and Secret Recipe. On March 23, the Wormhole label drops Cold World, the 4-track EP from west coast bass acts Mike.iLL & Subduktion.

We were first turned onto both Mike.iLL and Subduktion by festival artist Kozmo, who will be performing on the ShadowTrix Music stage. A longtime collaborator and tour partner of both, we were drawn to their collaborations, remixes, and ultimately their individual original tracks.

Wormhole was kind enough to set us up with the title track from Cold World, a bruising cut with icy synth stabs and some full-powered bass blasts that almost have a throwback, big beat, breaks effect in their punchy attitude. There's a real rock-meets-ratchet attitude on this unforgiving opener. A true test of what's to come on the rest of the EP, and in general from these two bass wizards. Who knows—perhaps these two will join the ranks of our festival roster in the coming years.
