Welcome to "The Holodeck," where reality is a fantasy, and vice versa. Trekkies and glitch-hop fans alike can get behind today's Fresh Beatz track from the dynamic duo Love and Light. Matt Madonna and Ryan Anderson are no strangers to the scene, building themselves a fan base from the ground up from their outpost in the Reno-Tahoe region. The pair, who have reached the dizzying heights of glitch-hop infamy, actually take a completely different approach to "The Holodeck," the second track from their album Level Up, out tomorrow (Sept 26th) on Beatport. It sounds like they grabbed Porter Robinson in a Vulcan death grip, blew on him to get the dust off, and jammed him into their SNES like a misbehaving cartridge. This is the closest you'll get to a Love and Light electro-house tune, because it sounds like it's been through the bit-crushing ringer. Of course you've got their signature bounce, but there's a decidedly uptempo drive versus an inherent funkiness, and there's even slight hints of moombah. Somethin' a lil' different from the L&L boys. To celebrate the release of the new album on Simplify Recordings, Love and Light are headed to the Mitten for a Detroit release party tomorrow at the Magic Stick, and Mac's Bar in East Lansing on Thursday.
