For the past few years, Matt Madonna and Ryan Anderson have been twin beacons of the glitch-hop movement. As Love and Light, the duo has criss-crossed the country, setting floors on fire with their intense stage show and kitchen sink approach to tempo. Unafraid to toss out chillout, midtempo breaks, drum 'n' bass, and whatever they can get their hands on, L&L have managed to make a name for themselves from their home base in the Reno/Tahoe Basin. Prolific as ever, only Love and Light would call a 13-track release an EP. Their latest album More Than a Feeling demonstrates their omnivorous approach to genres, mixing in their funky brand of bass music with remixes from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Highlights include "The Staver Formula," "Schporck Chops," their wicked take on Blackstreet's "No Diggity," and, of course, the title remix of Boston's "More Than a Feeling." The shaggy-haired anthem of a generation gets a facelift courtesy of pseudo-electro laserbass synths that flex and swagger across the soaring electric guitar and vocals of the original. Madonna and Anderson will celebrate the release of this album, and hearken the release of the real full-length album, Level Up, with a release show on 9/22 in Reno at the Knitting Factory. The next one is out on Beatport via Simplify Recordings on Sept. 26th.
