With all this bass in the world, shredding guitar, sludgy licks, and pig squeals have been playing second fiddle. One of Colorado's premier bass auteurs, Ben Samples, took it upon himself to show some love to the downtrodden six-string. Sex, Drugs, & Bass matches hip beats and blistering bass with some of the most iconic guitar work of the 70's, 80's, and 90's, spreading the gospel of Ozzy's "Crazy Train," Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell," and Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name." Samples is unafraid to bring a little rock to a very guitar-friendly environment, creating an irresistible sound in the process. Kudos. If distorted power chords ain't your thing, perhaps you should check out Samples' other release (does this guy sleep?) Chill Works, Vol. 2, featuring the more sensual side of his music.
